Some Muslim clerics and Muftis defend the mention of wife beating in Quran 4:34 along the same lines of a husband protecting his wife. Just as a husband would use physical force to stop a thug from hurting his wife, sometimes a husband must use physical force to stop a woman from harming herself by not submitting to him.
Do Muslims who who physically punish their wives see this as a form of protection? Is this how Muslim women feel?
An Invitation to Believe in Jesus
We are all sinners. We’ve all sinned against others and others have sinned against us. Husbands have sinned against their wives. Wives have sinned against their husbands. That’s why the Christian Gospel is good news!
If you are a husband and have ever abused your wife, there is forgiveness through faith in Jesus. If you are a wife and have sinned against your husband, there is forgiveness through faith in Jesus. The prophet Isaiah spoke of this good news hundreds of years before Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary:
Isaiah 53:5–6
5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
