The folly of bombing ISIS
Bernard Haykel, professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, is one of the foremost secular authorities on the Islamic State. In this video he points out that “Every time the West has intervened in the Middle East for the last 200 years it has led to a much worse situation both for the people of the region and for the West.”
You talk about destruction, and it’s very sad to see all of the violence going on today. I agree that we should never have intervened with Iraq and middle east affairs. It has been costly in lives lost and monetarily.
I don’t know what the answer is, but when I happened to turn on the BBC channel last night and saw their coverage of muslim life in America, particularly the problem that seems to be going on in Dearborn, MI, it really scares me. I think Americans are all very much afraid.
I don’t think the average American wants to see all this destruction continued, or harm to come to peaceful Muslims. But with all that’s happened, I think people are running scared — I know I feel more unsafe now then I ever have.
What is the answer to all this madness then? No one seems to be coming up with a plan for any peaceful resolution.
Would it be helpful for me to read the Quaran? It was suggested on a radio show this AM, from a christian, Vietnam soldier, that it’s something all Americans should do. He said it was really scary what is said and thought and followed from the Quaran.
