Another one of the five pillars of Islam is alms giving. Hajj + Alms (zakat) = Big $$$ for beggars. In fact, some beggars are already going to Mecca to stake out their territory. Sitting in strategic locations near the Grand Mosque can bring in hundreds of dollars.
The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia is trying to curb begging by advising pilgrims not to give money to street beggars.
